Let’s give David Moyes some credit
Since John Lyall, Moyes is the manager that has achieved more for us.

You might not like it, but he has given us plenty of good games. He definitely deserves to stay.

This premier league season was bad. Too many dire games. It has been tough, it was Moyes's fault, but he came through in the end.

I see some calling for possession football a change of style, new ideas a different way to play. But we tried possession with Pellegrini and I do not remember many supporting Pellegrini before he went.

After Pellegrini, Moyes sorted us out with defense and counter. We played many games very well, very entertaining. Apparently he had aspirations to try possession football this season, but didn't even get going. We will never compete with possession football, not without crazy money and way way better ownership. I don't see it happening, at least not in the near future.

The way to go is counter attacking with Moyes, but we need to focus on getting more shots, more counter attacking and forget about possession. Moyes can get us back to more attacking and less defending.

Obviously it will not be easy, massive changes ahead. Is Moyes the man for the job? Of course he is. I am on for the ride.

HAMMERS

An old tread... the endless recycling, does WHO ever advance.... of course it fucking doesn't.

Taking the stats of an entire league season is being selective?

Especially when it's the last season and followed a half season of the same form

Re: Let’s give David Moyes some credit
I love the Lyall comparisons. JL had 12 seasons in the top flight and the average position was 14th. We were also relegated twice. I also remember the fans who wanted Lyall out. Who now, would put up with that sort of record? A little reality on our Lyall years, might help a bit. I’m not sure how many would accept an FA cup win, in exchange for a relegation.
Moyes has saved us from relegation (twice), plus rescued himself last season. In addition, we have qualified 3 times for Europe, reached a semi final and won a final.
I was very much pro JL and think all this screaming ‘Sack the manager’ is really rather daft. Give credit when it’s due and have a moan when they deserve it, but be realistic and accept all the stats, rather than be selective.

Pre Moyes when was the last good time season?

Bilic - Payet season? Finished decent in the league. Won nothing

Pardew 2006 - Some decent wins, a lot of losses and Runners up in FA Cup

Redknapp - Some good football, lot of transfers, Intertoto Cup shared with some other clubs

Bonds - Promotion season

Moyes is a Prod, or at least he was in his playing days.

Teammates complained he'd rather read the Bible than go on team-bonding piss-ups.

Hopefully, he's given up all this religious nonsense, but he probably hasn't.

Re: Let’s give David Moyes some credit
If he had any dignity, or appreciation of his limited ability, he'd leave now - and good luck to him. It would undoubtedly be the best thing for all of us. First thing we've won for 43 years, first thing he's won ever - leave on a high.

Anyone who thinks this will get better and end well is deluded.

Cheers Dave

I'd give him to the end of October, if it's back to shite negative football and bottom of the table they will sack him

alex, if you've enjoyed the last three seasons that's fine. people have different perspectives on what the team should be doing, I just don't want any more of our good players fucking off next summer if he continues with this bare minimum approach that must be horrible to play in, especially someone like paqueta

If you want to look at it like that, how many times since Lyall have we had one and a half good seasons in a row?

Redknapp in the late nineties, but apart from that I wouldn't say there's been much.

"David Moyes is the best manager we have had since John Lyall."

not sure you can compare him to any previous manager since lyall, given that he's spent £323m in the space of three years. not sure either about two great seasons, considering we stopped playing in the league in late december 21, and lost twenty league games last season. the status suggestion is funny
